How will you make an impact?

Reporting to the Director, Supply Chain, San Jose, the Strategic Sourcing Specialist, will play an integral part in aligning the Production and Supply Chain organizations. They will be responsible for managing the on-going performance and continuous improvement for our key site suppliers. They will play a critical in Supplier Selection, determining prices and cost savings results, driving Supplier Business Reviews and Supplier Scorecards. Support the buying team as required. This position is located onsite in San Jose, CA.

What will you do?

  • Locate, evaluate, negotiate, and select suppliers and potential suppliers to gain the best quality, cost and delivery of purchased material consistent with required standards
  • Knowledge of supply chain programs (consignment, JIT, VMI, etc.) and ability to manage project execution of these programs
  • Improves processes and creates efficiencies through lean initiatives (Practical Process Improvement) and project management
  • Strong customer service focus to enhance satisfaction, demonstrate judgment, tact and diplomacy in dealing with internal and external customers. Identify alternates for obsolete and/or EOL parts
  • Out-Sourcing / Re-Sourcing
  • Overall Supplier Performance; Managing Scorecards / Supplier Business Reviews
  • Negotiating year over year pricing and inventory improvement agreements
  • Manage metrics to track overall success and effectiveness of commodity performance
  • Alignment with Division / Corporate Sourcing


  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing operations, business administration, operations management, purchasing, or equivalent work experience.


  • Requires a minimum of 4+ years of related experience preferably in a high paced manufacturing environment
  • Preferred commodity experience: optics, lasers/lamps, PCBs/computers, fabrication, computers, contract mfg.
  • Ideal candidate has purchasing/ERP experience and demonstrated results in materials shortage management and inventory control
  • Must have negotiation experience and ideally formal negotiation training
  • Understands basics of financial and business analysis
  • Understands and is passionate about scorecard and metrics-based approaches to supply base management
  • Understands contracts and has led and negotiated various types of deals with multi-party stakeholders
  • Experience in worldwide sourcing
  • Proven cost reduction track record
  • Program management skill’s preferred
  • experience in a large matrixed company environment.
  • Brings fresh innovative ideas to improve group processes and effectiveness, aligned with our direction to de-emphasize transactions thru automation and outsourcing, and to drive sourcing partnership with engineering and to lead supply chain management with key suppliers

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knows how businesses work; knowledgeable in current and possible future policies, practices, trends, technology, and information affecting his/her business and organization
  • Experience in a continuous improvement environment with a track record of achieving significant year over year results
  • Acts with customers in mind; establishes and maintains effective relationships with internal customers and gains their trust and respect
  • Project management and ability to develop strong support for change with all levels of internal and external organizations
  • Effective interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to make decisions and solve practical problems with a variety of variables in situations where standardization may be limited
  • Statistical analysis skills; must be able to analyze trends and statistical data and make appropriate decisions and recommendations
  • Self-driven, results oriented, and motivated to work effectively without direct supervision
  • Proficiency with off-the-shelf database applications
